General Hugh Shelton USA(Ret) -Welcome Home event at Patriot Plaza

Received a nice note [attached] from General Hugh Shelton USA(Ret) thanking us for our participation in the Welcome Home event at Patriot Plaza, at which he was the keynote speaker. You may not be aware that this was his final public appearance, as a former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Thanks to all of our Chapter members and Tidewell for making this event such a success for over 2,000 attendees. I believe we passed out over 700 pins to our Vietnam veterans.

Best,

Brian

May Breeze

Dear Member

Attached is the May 2018 issue of the MOAS monthly newsletter, The Sarasota Breeze, as well as a separate Reservation Form for you to use when making your reservation for the May Luncheon on on Friday May 18, 2018 at Michael’s on East.

The May luncheon is our Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon.  We will be presenting scholarships to ten outstanding young high school graduates embarking on their future education. Our luncheon speaker will be Allison Nash of the State College of Florida.

I am going to use this space to mention 3 important events that require your assistance.

1.  As we have done in the past, we are asking you to please consider sponsoring a luncheon for a student and/or parent attending the scholarship awards luncheon.  See Luncheon Reservation Form

2. Please utilize the period of May 1 1200hrs to May 2 1159hrs to go online to contribute to our Sarasota Military Officers Scholarship Fund (SMOSF) though the Giving Challenge.  All of your donations between $25 and $100 given during this time will matched by The Patterson Foundation.  If you wish to donate more than $100 you might want to use multiple credit cards. See Page 9 of the newsletter.

3.  On May 2 at 11:00 AM there will be a special Surviving Spouse Luncheon at the Bird Key Yacht Club where attendees will receive a MOAA Surviving Spouse pin, and you will have the opportunity to donate to the SMOSF through the Giving Challenge. See Page 8 of the newsletter.
Don’t forget the May Meet and Greet May 9th at 6:00 PM at Marina Jack.  Please invite any of your officer friends to join us at this event.

As usual, we hope you enjoy this issue—and ask that you let us know if you have any suggestions for future issues.
