Join the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (VAHCS) for a special POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. The event will take place in the courtyard located between buildings 2 and 37 at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center located at 10000 Bay Pines, Blvd., Bay Pines, FL 33744. For driving directions and a campus map, please visit www.baypines.va.gov/ Highlights of the ceremony will include local VA leaders from the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System and distinguished keynote speaker World War II concentration camp liberator, Arthur Sheridan. Mr. Sheridan was born and raised in Chicago, graduating from Nicholas Senn High School. In 1942, at age 17, he enlisted in the Army. Assigned to the 20th Infantry Division, he arrived in Europe following the D-Day invasion, and fought his way across France and into Germany. Outside Munich, the 20th Infantry and 20th Armored Division found and liberated the concentration camp at Dachau. As an infantryman, Sheridan was one of the first American soldiers to enter the camp. Still just a teen, he didn’t fully understand what he was witnessing, but the memories stayed with him. Parking for the ceremony will be available nearby. Shuttles will provide transportation for guests from parking lots to the courtyard. The venue is handicapped accessible. A sign language interpreter will be available for the hearing impaired. The ceremony will be held rain or shine. Please plan appropriately for inclement weather.
