Established
in 2000, The Sarasota Military Officers Foundation ("Foundation") is a
charitable organization administered by the Board of the Military
Officers Association of Sarasota ("MOAS"). MOAS, through the
Foundation, strives to be an active part of the Greater Sarasota area
community by providing assistance, on an as needed basis, to those who
have served their country. The Foundations programs include:
- Awarding scholarships to deserving graduating Greater Sarasota area high school seniors. Sponsoring and supporting high school JROTC programs.
- Sponsorship and active participation for a SUPPORT OUR TROOPS program.
- Providing active duty and recently separated military personnel as well as veterans with needed support. In 2013 the Foundation expanded its scholarship program to include deserving returning veterans attending local educational institutions.
- In 2019 and 2018 MOAS was again awarded the coveted Five Star award from the National Military Officers Association of American for excellence in service to military families and the greater community.The award is given to chapters for mission performance excellence.
The Foundation is staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers, and funds are obtained solely through donations and fund-raising.
