I’m so very pleased with our veteran organization turnout today. 30 of our 32-organizations showed up in force to staff their tables and meet our Sarasota community. It was a unique opportunity for me, and hopefully for you, meeting our brother and sister organizations. I heard several heart-worming accounts today of how we were able to connect with our veterans. If we solved only one veteran’s issue – the event was a success. I know we solved a number of housing, legal and job placement issues for our veterans today. The media will get the word and I believe your participation will result in an ongoing benefit to your organization.

While a little disappointed in park attendance, I’m reminded of what Ralph Waldo Emerson stated: “The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn.” Hopefully, this is just the first such event - bringing resources together for our veteran community. We were fighting a warm afternoon in August and the second day of school on a Tuesday. Next year we will have more scheduling options.

We all owe a debt of gratitude to the Baltimore Orioles for partnering with all of us to honor our veterans. Note that all the ball players stood for the SMA color guard and Laure Nielson’s rendition of our National anthem. The players enthusiastically joined in the cheering for the SOCOM Para Commandos jumping into Ed Smith Stadium.

I hope everyone had an opportunity to see a few innings, grab a beer and hot dog. BTW the marines one 1st and 2nd prize in the Fast Pitch. Thanks Orioles for setting that up for us. All proceeds will go for veteran financial aid at the State College of Florida and USF – Sarasota/Manatee.

I would appreciate hearing from you.  How can we do even better job next year? When our photographer posts his photos, in the next couple of days, I will share the link with you.

BZ [well done]

Brian,

Well said. I could not think of anything to add, but still wanted to offer my thanks to you and all who made this Veterans/Military Appreciation Day special for all of us. It was a pleasure working with so many who demonstrated a can do attitude to come out and support our Veteran population.

We could not have asked for a better venue, and everyone on the Oriole’s staff were wonderful. The weather was a bit warm, but thankfully it did not rain.

Linda will send you her photos, and we encourage anyone else who took photos to do the same.  Brian is going to gather them all, and post them on a blog for everyone to enjoy.

Cannot wait for next year.

Woz & Linda
