Southwest FL – At the February luncheon the Military Officers Association of Sarasota enjoyed a very informative presentation on The Many Faces of Old Glory given by Vane Scott III.
Following the Stars & Stripes Celebration at Patriot Plaza on Monday, to record crowds estimated at over 3,000, with Vane Scott III, Michael Krebs, as Abraham Lincoln, Lauren Nielson, Miss Tampa singing our National Anthem and God Bless America, acapella, and the Pops Orchestra,
Brian McCarty, the event organizer, introduced Vane to the luncheon crowd at the Bird Key Yacht Club. We couldn’t fit the Pops Orchestra in the dining room and Abe was in a heated argument with Fredrick Douglas and couldn’t make our luncheon. So Vane shed his Revolutionary War garb and performed in his Sarasota beach uniform… polo shirt and shorts. The performance was extraordinary by all accounts. Sue Scott played The Many Faces of Old Glory performance music and Vane gave a one-hour performance on how both the “British Union Jack” and “Old Glory” came to be.
This decision was reached by a near unanimous vote of our Board of Directors due to the threat of the Coronavirus, and the advance ages of our Membership who would be attending this luncheon.
This was to be our last 2020 event at Bird Key Yacht Club.
Our next scheduled luncheon is Thursday 23 April at Michaels On East Restaurant, 1212 S. East Ave., Sarasota, FL 34239 and our Guest Speakers will be Major Mark Lenzi, USMC, and Master Gunnery Sergeant Purin from the Tampa Bay Area Recruiting Station.
You will be given notice if this were to change.
If you already sent Elke Scott, our Luncheon Coordinator, your check for the March Luncheon, she will destroy your check since the amount for the luncheon will be different.
All remaining 2020 luncheons and/or dinners will be held at Michaels On East Restaurant.

As it turned out Smugglers Cove only charged us $8.00 each for 16 golfers vs $9.00 each which we collected from everyone.
Instead of giving everyone a refund of $1.00 each we are going to donate $16.00 to Support Our Troops (SOT) which is almost enough to send one SOT box overseas.

Next year, based on the feedback you gave us, we will schedule the mini-golf & post golf dinner on a weekday to have a smaller crowd at Smugglers Cove and at Jo-To Japanese Steakhouse. Wednesday 24 February 2021 looks good and since this will be the 4th Wednesday of the month, we will combine the events with our Roaming Meet & Greet. For February this year, having four MOAS YAHOO social events in the month may have been too much for many...not for Woz, but probably for most.
Hope you all had a good time.

Rene Faessler hits a hole in one. He also drove Craig Hullinger's ball in for another hole in one for Craig, allowing Craig to beat Woz by one stroke. Thanks, Rene.
