Military Officers Association Promotes Vietnam War 50th Commemoration – “America Thanks You”

Vietnam Veterans copySouthwest FL – A commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War will be held at Patriot Plaza located at the Sarasota National Cemetery at 5:00 PM on March 29, 2016.

This commemoration event is sponsored by the Sarasota National Cemetery and the Sarasota County Veterans Commission and will recognize all who served in the uniformed services from November 1, 1955 through May 15, 1975 irrespective of the fact that they may not have physically served in Vietnam.

The Vietnam 50th Commemoration is designed to assist a grateful nation in thanking and honoring our Vietnam Veterans and their families. The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and “in conducting the commemorative program, the Secretary shall coordinate, support, and facilitate other programs and activities of the Federal Government, State and local governments, and other persons and organizations in commemoration of the Vietnam War.” Sarasota County has been recognized as a “Commemorative Partner” and this ceremony is part of the nationwide commemorative program.

During the March 29th Commemoration program, all Vietnam era veterans who have not previously been presented with a Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin, will be so recognized as part of the ceremonies. All Vietnam era veterans, their families, and all who wish to thank those who served during that period are invited to attend. The Sarasota National Cemetery is located at 9810 State Rd 72, Florida 34241, (Clark Road, approximately 4 miles East of I-75.

MOAA Press Release - Important

Date: Fri, 12 Feb 2016 09:49:25 -0500 (EST)
From: Robert Bienvenue <rbienven@sprynet.com>
Subject: MOAA Press Release - Important

TO:  Florida CoC Board Members, Chapter Presidents and Chapter Legislative Chairs

NOTE:  This address list was created from the Florida CoC website master listing -- if the addresses are incorrect or incomplete please update your respective chapter's input. Contact John Snyder for tech assistance: jhsnyder41@gmail.com )

The purpose of this email is to forward for your action the latest MOAA Press Release (Feb 11, 2016)  regarding the proposals that our organization finds objectionable in the DoD FY 2017 Budget submittal  .

In my Legislative Update column in the February Communique http://www.moaafl.org/Communique/Issues/Feb2016.pdf  I gave you a heads up as to the areas where contentious proposals were anticipated. And now with the release of the President's Budget earlier this week those predictions have come to pass!

MOAA gives very wide distribution to their Press Releases in particular to the press and legislative offices in the DC area. But they count on our grass roots leaders to extend the distribution in their locales. I urge you to provide this release to the editorial boards of your local newspapers and other outlets that serve your locations.

Our challenges in protecting the compensation and benefits for members of the uniformed services and achieving MOAA's legislative goals for this year will be formidable. Your every effort in response to MOAA's Calls for Action will be necessary to ensure the benefits earned by their service and sacrifices to our country are not attacked in the name of fiscal constraints.

Later today you will be receiving more information in MOAA's Weekly Legislative Update email regarding the specifics on the pay raise cap (for the fourth year in a row!!)  and on the "participation" fee increases for Tricare beneficiaries.

Stand by for a very busy year in our advocacy mission for the currently serving servicemembers, retirees, families of the same and for our surviving spouses in particularly for the 880,000+ here in Florida.

Regards

Bob Bienvenue, FCoC Legislative Chair
