Past Events/Outings
Friday 24 March 1700 Dinner at Joto Japanese Steak House followed by 1945 Smugglers Cove Adventure Miniature Golf.
We had a welcomed number of last minute sign ups after the 17 March MOAS luncheon and e-blast that went out and had to flip flop venues and times but it all worked out well. We had 20 people enjoying a delicious and entertaining Japanese Hibachi style dinner. Jon & Mary Gordon, Len & Christa Friedlander, Craig & Beth Hullinger, Grant Krueger & Peggy Denham, Bill & Barb Lawyer, Jeff & Sue Warmington, Jim & Debbie Ainslie, Troy & Elke Scott, Abby Scott (dau) & Shajan Thomas (fiancé), Ron & Linda Wozniak. Unfortunately, the owner of Jo-To’s is retiring and selling the restaurant. So, this was our last YAHOO dinner there.
12 folks ventured to navigate through caves, pirate ships, waterfalls and live alligators at Smugglers Cove. Jon & Mary Gordon, Len & Christa Friedlander, Craig Hullinger, Jeff & Sue Warmington, Jim & Debbie Ainslie, and Ron Wozniak. Craig Hullinger and Peggy Denham tied for lowest score of 42. We won’t say who had the highest score but the guys had an average score of 42 and the women 48. A good time was had by all, and everyone is looking forward to it again next year.
Wednesday 29 March No Host Sunset at Siesta Key Beach. We met at our usual spot at the water’s edge to the right (North) of the Northern most lifeguard tower. The US, USMC & POW/MIA Flags were flying proudly in the breeze. Great weather, and no trace of Red Tide. (5 attended): Len & Christa Friedlander, Craig Hullinger, Ron & Linda Wozniak. Hopefully now that we are starting this event up again more will come out and enjoy the beautiful Florida weather and best of all the camaraderie of fellow MOAS Members and spouses.
Wednesday 5 April Offshore Fishing 1000-1700
Chris Nind and Woz fished Anna Marina Sound, Bean Point off Anna Maria Island and 3 Mile Reef North, and lower Tampa Bay. No trace of Red Tide in the Gulf or inshore. Not much success in the Gulf but we had a brief exciting strike and break off using a 12’ Lizardfish on the surface. So, we tried inshore where Woz landed the best and tastiest fish for dinner (18’ Spotted Sea Trout). I guess Chris enjoyed himself. He signed up for the next inshore outing 19 April.
CANCELED Due to weather-Wednesday 12 April No Cost Pontoon Boat Cruise around Bird Key 1500-1700. High winds and Small Craft Warning closed the harbor.
Wednesday 12 April Meet & Greet Marina Jacks 1700-1900. (6 attended) Joe & Denise Jennings, Len & Christa Friedlander and Ron & Linda Wozniak. We met outside under the covered seating area next to the water at the Blue Sunshine Patio. Unfortunately, the driving rain entered our seating area, and we retreated closer inland to the bar.
